Distribution of calbindin-D28k in endocrine cells of the gastrointestinal tract and pancreas and of some endocrine glands (thyroid, parathyroid, pi- tuitary, adrenals) in rats

چکیده
Distribution of calbindin D28k in the thyroid, parathyroid, pituitary, adrenals, pancreas, small and large intestines, and in stomach from 6 adult Wistar rats were investigated immunohistochemically using an antiserum raised against the 28kD calbindin from chicken duodenum. Parathyroid, intestine and pancreatic endocrine cells failed to react with the antibodies whereas immunoreactivity was markedly found in the thyroid parafollicular cells, in the epithelial cells of the adenohypophysis, in the adrenal chromaffin cells and also in nerve fibres from neurohypophysis and adrenal medulla. Calbindin immunoreactivity was rare in stomach. All the tested animals presented the same profile of calbindin D-28k localisation. The presence of calbindin D28k in the epithelial cells and in the nerve fibres suggest that this calcium binding protein is probably involved in the regulation of the intracellular Ca2+ pool.

Regional and mucosal distributions of some intestinal immunoreactive endocrine cells in New Zealand white rabbit (Oryctolagus cuniculus L.)
The aim of this study was to detect the regional and mucosal distribution of endocrine cells that secrete gulcagon, somatostatin, Chyholecystokinin-8 (CCK-8), serotonin, secretin, substance P (SP) and histamine in the small and large intestine of New Zealand white rabbit (Oryctolagus cuniculus L.) using immunohistochemical peroxidase-antiperoxidase (PAP) method. It was found that most of the im...
متن کاملDistribution and relative frequency of immunohistochemically detected endocrine cells in the stomach of New Zealand White rabbit (Oryctolagus cuniculus)
Background: Gastrointestinal (GI) endocrine cells produce many GI hormones that perform various physiological functions of the digestive system. Aims: We aimed to investigate the presence and distribution of immunoreactive (IR) endocrine cells to glucagon, somatostatin, cholecystokinin-8 (CCK-8), serotonin, secretin and histamine in the stomach of adult male Ne...
متن کاملNeuroendocrine Tumors (NET) and Nuclear Medicine
The term NET groups together different types of cancer that develop in various regions of the human body. They are born, in fact, by cells with characteristics partly similar to nerve cells ("neuro") partly similar to the endocrine ones, scattered almost everywhere in the human organism. So, some NET develop in endocrine glands (such as adrenals, pituitary gland and pancreas), while others affe...
متن کاملThe distribution of serotonin-immunoreactive cells in larynx, trachea and bronchi of goat (Capra aegagrus) and bovine (Bos taurus)
The respiratory tract contains numerous peptides secreted from special pulmonary epithelial cells whichare called endocrine cells. The function of neuroendocrine cells is modulated by amines. Serotonin has strong vasomotor and bronchomotor effects in the airway mucosa. The objective of this study was to determine presence and distribution of serotonin-positive endocrine cells in respiratory tra...
متن کاملManagement of endocrine disorders in pregnancy Part I--thyroid and parathyroid disease.
In these reviews we discuss the management of endocrine disorders, with the exception of diabetes mellitus, as they occur in pregnancy. Although taking account of the literature, so far as it is possible we give our own opinions as to optimal management and, where appropriate, provide illustrative case reports. Part I deals with disorders of the thyroid and parathyroid glands, Part II with diso...
